You can find mystery shopping jobs without paying a company a fee to sign you up with anyone. Go to www.volition.com (http://www.volition.com) and there are so many companies you can sign up with for free you never will get through signing up for all of them.
You can make money with this but keep in mind that many of them require you to make a purchase to validate your trip there. When I was doing this I started with several companies and weeded them out in favor of the ones that had the easiest questionnaires and best pay. Many of them want you to look for many things, answer detailed questions, and then only pay you a few dollars. Don't bother with those. I found this endeavor to just be for a little extra money but if you lived in a large metro area you could probably do pretty well at it.

There are legitimate companies who do a lot of mystery shopping. Tip #1 is it should never cost you money to get information. Tip #2 is, don't expect to make a real income, it's a nice way to make a little money here and there, and it's kind of fun, but that's about it. Most jobs will pay you $5-25 and will involve one or two trips to a store, plus the time doing the paperwork and submitting it.
Another vote for volition.com - it's a great resource.

I have done a secret shopper assignment for http://www.channelwatch.net/ ... it took less than 30 minutes. I went to Best Buy and had to pretend I was shopping for a big screen TV.
I've also done photo audits for them. I went to 3 different Wal-mart Supercenters around town and took digital pictures of a particular product demonstration. They paid $5 per picture.

Sounds like secret shopper jobs do pay and are not scams. I would be interested to try it out, given the opportunity.

A good legitimate place to look for those kind of jobs is on www.narms.com (http://www.narms.com). They mostly list merchandising jobs, but often they do have listings from secret shopper companies. It's free to look at their listings. Just look down on the left-hand side and click search Job Bank.

It seems to me like it's so much time consuming for the money you get, or do I have the wrong impression?

I guess it depends on what it pays.... and what you are used to making.
I used to do this, though I don't have time for it any more. It is definitely not a way to make a living. However, it is fun and a great way to dine for free at upscale restaurants. And the perks of getting other items for free are good too. You can pick and choose your jobs, so you never have to take on anything that you're not interested in benefitting from in the way of money or at least an item/service you'd actually use. The companies I'm familiar with are Speedmark (speedmarkweb.com) and CheckMark (checkmarkinc.com). Both offered alot of opportunities in my area; Speedmark especially.

I know that the jobs are legitimate because we have them at my work. I work at the Post Office and we have local mystery shoppers and also national mystery shoppers. (Lol... personally I think they are a pain in the but because now I have to make sure I say exactly the right thing and ask the right questions. It makes my job very sterial I think... no being personable.) So if you get a job mystery shopping the post office be nice to the poor window clerk!!:t9:

I used to do a few of the mystery shop jobs, but my car broke down. They were okay and sometimes kind of fun. I found a few companies that did them in my area. I found them the old fashion way by searching myself. It may take a little bit of time, but it is free. I am not sure about the companies you have to pay for a list. They may not even have jobs in your area.
