Either I'm getting too picky or I'm burning out! I write human interest but I get a lot of assignments from my newspapers. I don't seem to be too excited about some of the topics. Anyone have any good ideas?

I never thought I'd see Michelle at a loss for words! :D

On a serious note, I have a couple of thoughts:

A very big 'human interest' is our soldiers abroad. Many of us know someone who has served, is serving, or will be going. My best friend/best man at my wedding re-enlisted and will be going to Iraq. A human interest article profiling three soldiers (one going abroad, one who has returned, and one currently overseas) would be great.

Another human interest can be animals. For instance, I live right near the headquarters of the Guide Dog Foundation. If I had time, I would love to write an article about some of the guide dogs and the people they have helped. I also saw the events of 9/11 from my office building in Jersey City (when I was still in the corporate world) and subsequently saw a lot of the news reports about the legions of rescue dogs that were looking for survivors. Everywhere there is some story about an animal who has affected the life of someone.

I hope my thoughts sparked something for you. I'm sure something else will come to mind as I put my head to it.

Haha, I'm not at a loss for words but one does have to prepare for the future! ;) You ought to write about what you saw and experienced with the terrorist attacks! Everyone saw something different or saw things in their own way!

I've thought about it. The one thing I can say is that no photo or video I have seen captures what downtown Manhattan looked like after both towers fell. The thick, billowing black smoke engulfed the whole bottom of the island and it looked like someone had dropped 'Fat Boy' (the Hiroshima bomb) on the lower half of New York. You could barely see the forms of the surrounding buildings through all the smoke and dust. It was an image I will never forget. I could go on for pages, but it's Saturday and I'll keep things light!
